The project was a combination of four components: existing playground rehabilitation, new playground, new parking lot, and new splash pad. The splash pad was a unique three-pod splash pad with each circular pod having its own set of age demographic spray features. The new playground was designed to have inclusive playground equipment with poured-in-place (PIP) rubber. Several coordination meetings were held between the City, funding agencies, the design team, and the three independent contractors who were all operating under separate agreements. The design was then progressed as a pseudo design-build; project specifications were created for the contractors to follow, and construction administration and inspection were handled by the design team. All of which took place under the guidance and supervision of Jason Havens. Throughout the project construction, the design team had to produce creative funding solutions for the City and design change solutions for the contractors, including value engineering alternatives for materials and layout orientations.
